- What is GotVoice?
GotVoice is a cutting edge service that allows you to read your voicemail on your cellphone or in email. Our unique approach lets you retrieve all of your voicemail from your home, office and mobile phone in one place. You'll save time and money by being able to scan and instantly understand voicemails at a glance. Plus, you can save, forward, and search for voicemails just like email.
Read below to learn more about how GotVoice can increase productivity and save you from the hassle of dealing with multiple voicemail accounts.
- How does GotVoice work?
GotVoice retrieves your voicemail from your wireless, landline, office/PBX or VoiP phone and converts them to text and digital audio files (MP3 or WAV). Both the text and digital audio file of your voicemail are sent to your email inbox. The text is also sent to your mobile phone as an SMS/Text Message. Lastly, both the text and audio are archived online forever in your personal GotVoice.com account for access at anytime.
GotVoice has several methods to retrieve your voicemail:
-
Polling: The GotVoice platform allows our servers to access and retrieve voicemail after the voice message has been left, automatically dialing into your voicemail system with your PIN# and retrieving the message for you. With the premium service, this polling method occurs on a schedule that you determine, and you can check your voicemail at up to 30 minute intervals.
-
Conditional Call Forwarding: With our premium service, if you choose to setup Conditional Call Forwarding with your wireless phone (which diverts the call to our servers if it goes unanswered), we digitally record the audio, convert it to text, and send to you immediately. GotVoice also optionally places the voice message back onto your phone, so you’ll still have a Message Waiting Indication, in addition to the email and optional SMS we send you.
-
Forward via Email With VoIP services: A simple change to your VoIP providers settings sends your voicemail audio file to GotVoice. This allows us to instantly convert your voicemail to text and deliver it to your email inbox along with an MP3 or WAV audio file. You are still able to access your voicemail as you do today, directly dialing into your service provider’s voicemail system and listening over the phone.

- What types of services does GotVoice offer?
GotVoice offers these services:
Voicemail Transcriptions (per month)-
Voicemail-to-Text is a GotVoice feature that lets you receive new voice messages in text alongside the standard audio. Now you can read your new voice messages instead of being forced to listen to them. New voice messages are automatically converted to text and sent to you as an email attachment and, should you so choose, a Text Message (SMS) as well. They are also stored as text in the Messages Inbox in your GotVoice account for quick reference and easy organization.
Billing can be capped by number of messages or set dollar amount. Filtering can be employed to choose which messages will be transcribed.
Scheduled Retrievals (per day)-
The GotVoice platform allows our servers to access and retrieve voicemail after the voice message has been left, automatically dialing into your voicemail system with your PIN# and retrieving the message for you.
Note: Scheduled retrievals apply only to providers that do not support conditional call-forwarding.
Manual Retrievals (per day)-
Just like Scheduled Voicemail Retrieval, but instead of automatically dialing into your voicemail account, you must log into your GotVoice account and click on the "Get New" or "Get Saved" links.
Scheduled Saved Message Deletion-
This option is great if you like your messages deleted at regular intervals, though does carry the risk that unchecked messages could be erased without first being checked. To have your saved messages deleted on a regular schedule, from your GotVoice account, click the "Phones" tab. Under the "schedule" sublink you can select to have your saved messages erased every night (premium service only) or once a week on Sunday nights. Click the "Save My Settings" button when you have made your selection.
Conditional Call Forwarding-
Call forwarding allows incoming calls that would normally be directed to your provider's voicemaill system to be sent directly to GotVoice where they can be immediately returned to you via emailed MP3 and transcribed text.
There are several key benefits to call-forwarding over the standard polling system:
- No time delay. New messages will show up immediately in the GotVoice inbox, via email, and optionally on your phone's voicemail system. Now you don't have to wait for scheduled retrievals, or manually retrieve messages.
- New messages show up as "new" on your phone. When new messages are processed by GotVoice, we can optionally send the message to your providers voicemail, which will turn on the Message Waiting Indicator on your phone so you will be alerted right away, just as you would expect.
- Voicemail-To-Text is much faster. Because message retrieval happens in real time, messages can be retrieved, transcribed, and sent to your email or phone as text in a fraction of the time it would take using our standard polling method.
Conditional Call Forwarding applies to mobile phones on AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon service.
# of Phones Supported-
This is the maximum number of phones (residential, wireless, voip, and forward-via-email) which you can add to your GotVoice account.
MP3 Attachments in Email-
For Premium users, email notifications will also contain the voicemail message as an MP3 attachment. This allows you to instantly listen to a message without having to log into your GotVoice account.
Greeting Installs (per month)-
The GotVoice Greetings mixer allows you to record and upload a 30 second message that callers will hear when they reach your voicemail. Greetings also gives you the option of mixing your message with either a preset or personalized background soundtrack. To use the Greetings Mixer:
- Record Your Message:
Press the "Record" button to begin recording your message. When you have finished recording, you can use the "Play" button to review your message. If you would like to re-record, simply press the "Record" button and try again.
- Select a Background:
When you select "Yes," on the "Select a Background" section you will be given two background options: "Select from Archive" or "Upload from PC."
- "Select from Archive": Allows you to choose a standard background track from the GotVoice library and includes nature sounds such as "Jungle Temple Monkeys" and pop music like "No Rain."
- "Upload from PC": Allows you to choose your own background track from songs, sounds, or even old voicemails you have saved on your hard drive. The progress bar will allow you to preview the background you have uploaded. Move the timeline editor to the start of the 30 second clip you would like to select. The "Play" button will allow you to preview the clip you have selected.
- Assign to Phone: Use the dropdown box to select which phone will receive the greeting. Use the three options on the left to select among message only, background only, and message plus background together. When you have selected a phone and decided on a mix, click the "Install Greeting" button to install the greeting to your phone's voicemail.
Broadcast Calling-
When you need to let everyone know right now, Broadcast Calling is ready. Simply dial one number, record your message and send it to everyone in a group of your choice.
Visual Voicemail-
GotVoice now lets you “see” your voicemail and lets you listen to your messages in the order of your choice. This allows better management of voicemail messages without clogging up your inbox.

- What is Voicemail-to-Text?
Voicemail-to-Text is a GotVoice feature that lets you receive new voice messages in text alongside the standard audio. Now you can read your new voice messages instead of being forced to listen to them. New voice messages are automatically converted to text and sent to you as an email attachment and, should you so choose, a Text Message (SMS) as well. They are also stored as text in the Messages Inbox in your GotVoice account for quick reference and easy organization.
- What is "Forward via Email" and how does it work?
Many VoIP providers let you forward your voicemail to your e-mail inbox as .wav or .mp3 file attachments. GotVoice
"Forward via Email" sends your voicemails through the GotVoice inbox, leaving a copy in your GotVoice inbox for easier
voicemail organization and management.
To set up a "Forward via Email" phone:
- From the Signup page.
- In the "Voicemail Type:" dropdown list, choose "VoIP/Digital Phone".
- In the "Provider:" dropdown list, choose "Forward via Email".
- In the "Phone:" text field, fill in your phone number.
- Press the "Get It Now!" button.
- Next, log into your online VoIP phone account. (i.e. Vonage, OneBox,etc.)
- From your VoIP phone account, set up your account to forward these emails to <your phone
number>@partner.gotvoice.com. For example, if your phone number is 555-555-1212, have your emails forwarded to
5555551212@partner.gotvoice.com. Every VoIP provider is different, but most offer a way of forwarding these emails
to a different email address, or adding an additional email address to send these emails to. If you have trouble
forwarding your VoIP emails, please contact your VoIP provider for more detailed instructions.
Some VoIP providers send an email with a link to their site instead of an attachment. Unless the .wav or .mp3 file is
attached as part of the email, GotVoice cannot process it. Also, some VoIP providers send their attachments in a proprietary
format which GotVoice cannot process.
- What is Call Forwarding?
Call forwarding allows incoming calls that would normally be directed to your provider's voicemaill system to be sent directly to GotVoice where they can be immediately returned to you via emailed MP3 and transcribed text.

- What is GotVoice Composer?
GotVoice Composer lets you send voice-recorded and text-to-speech messages to US-based home or mobile phones directly from your computer. It also lets you send messages to any email address. With GotVoice Composer you can:
- Send messages to phones and email addresses using contact lists imported from your Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo, or other email address books.
- Send the same message to multiple phones at once.
- Deliver messages directly by ringing recipient's phones.
- Deliver messages "silently" to voicemail without making phones ring.
- What is the GotVoice Greetings Mixer?
The GotVoice Greetings Mixer allows you to record and upload a short message for callers to hear when they reach your voicemail. The Greetings Mixer also lets you mix your message with a preset or personalized background soundtrack.
- What are Avatars?
A GotVoice Avatar is a cartoon image which appears to be speaking as the message plays. It is a way to add some personality to voicemail playback. Turn your boss into the devil, turn your friend into a lip-synched Hot Dog, even turn your dad into a talking Bear. Upload the funniest Talking Avatars to YouTube, FaceBook, MySpace, or forward them to friends by email.
