Hello World

Hello! I’m Virginia Thomas and I am a program manager for Spoken/GotVoice. I like to introduce myself since I will be commenting on all things having to do with voice-to-text in this blog.  Ever since Google announced their entry in this market back in March 2009, the world has become that much more familiar with this technology.  I can’t wait to share with you how our customers benefit from our highly accurate speech-to-text transcription.  I promise you more ramblings on this later.

For today, I want to tell you something about my background. My initial task with Spoken, who acquired GotVoice in October 2009, was to jump in, learn, support and maintain every aspect of the system, end-to-end.  I like a good challenge and found this task to be something like corporate boot camp. From day 1, there was not much time for idle chit-chat around the proverbial water cooler. This system is quite complex providing multi-channel products including, retail, B2B and wholesale customers.  And at  the core of these product offerings is the patent pending voice-to-text engine. Phew!  I am glad this part is behind me.

My background is in software development, most recently using Objective C and prior to that, C++/Linux.  I have done most of this work in start-ups and as a consultant.  These environments are by nature ambiguous and fast paced.  I pursued a role in program management because I wanted the larger view on how projects work. How does a company decide what projects to take on?  How do you cost it out? What do your customers want?  What does it take to get it all done?

To get back to my current role, my previous experiences of working in challenging environments now provides me with the foundation to tackle the exciting new projects here at GotVoice/Spoken. With our emphasis in providing top-notch customer service and the highest quality voice-to-text products,  we are positioned to continue to be an industry leader.

So feel free to drop me a line and let me know how I can help you get started with our voice-to-text platform!

    • Are you a voicemail blabberer?
If you’ve ever left a blabbering voicemail after which you hung up, thinking, “Wow, I really sounded like an idiot,” just relax with this little bit of schadenfreude. It could have been worse. You could have been like this guy: Thanks to David Wygant’s dating blog for the link to this video. His advice is good [...] […]
    • How Google Voice revolutionized the voice to text transcription market
With GotVoice’s voicemail transcription offerings, it would have been easy to see Google Voice as competition. Never mind the tiny fact that those who compete with Google rarely win, anyway; it’s more to the point that Google Voice actually did a huge service for the entire voice to text marketplace. When Google Voice first came out, [...] […]

    • Mobile World Congress, Day 3
Here at Spoken, today was primarily booked with meetings with current and potential partners. What’s really nifty about Spoken’s primary technology is that, while it was developed to support efficiency and customer service in call center, the principle of having a human Silent Guide can be applied to just about ANY service in which voice [...] […]
